IF you want to go fast go alone, IF you want to go far go together.

This post was written by one of my classmates and I wanted to share it. “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” It really spoke to me; I’ve always been more of a “solo fighter” but after playing sports for a long time, I came to see the value of teamwork.

1_yhamfdzorezsux8xub1umgThis African proverb stuck with me ever since I read it on the whiteboard in my freshman math class. I’ve always thought that the proverb forced you to choose one or the other. However, as I tried to connect it to stories or my personal life, I came to the conclusion that it simply depends on the situation. For instance, when one is required to conduct a lab, some people would prefer to work alone to avoid burdens and keep everything constant in their mind. In the opposite way, those who are openminded when conducting an experiment work together to solve the situation at hand.

I enjoy reading this quote because of the discussions that can be made from it. I talk about it with friends and we sometimes agree. Overall, its just a good proverb that I enjoy saying when I have the chance.
